The boat is private to your group, with a professional skipper who takes care of everything: sailing, anchoring and safety. All you have to do is enjoy. Departure from Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, with private, secure parking: ideal for heading home with peace of mind at the end of the evening.

How it works

How an evening at sea goes

  1. 18 h
BoardingWelcome at Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, with private, secure parking. The skipper introduces the boat and the safety briefing.

  4. 20 h 30

When the sea allows

A swim under the stars

From June to September, the water stays mild until late. At anchor, a swim at sunset or at nightfall is a rare moment: the dark water, the city sparkling in the distance. It is always at the skipper’s discretion, with the stern lit and the swim ladder down, and never after too many drinks.

All year round

An evening at sea in every season

In spring and summer

From April to September, the sun sets during the evening at sea: drinks at golden hour facing the Château d’If, then dinner at nightfall. From June to September, the water stays mild until late and a swim at anchor is a rare moment. This is the busiest period: book several weeks ahead, especially for weekends.

In autumn and winter

From October to March, night falls early: you sail in the dark, with Marseille lit up as a backdrop. The atmosphere is more intimate, the bay calmer, and dinner in the warmth of the catamaran’s saloon or under a blanket in the cockpit becomes a memory apart. The skipper checks the marine weather and postpones the trip if the sea does not allow safe sailing.

Where to dine at sea

The most beautiful anchorages for an evening at sea

The skipper chooses the evening anchorage according to the wind, so that dinner takes place on a calm sea. Here are the places where we like to drop anchor.

The Frioul islands

The coves of Pomègues and Ratonneau offer sheltered anchorages facing the setting sun. On the way back, you sail past the Château d’If, lit up at night.

The Côte Bleue

Right next to Port Corbières, the calanques of Niolon and Méjean are calm and wild, perfect when the wind comes from the east.

The bay of Marseille

The show on the way back: the Vieux-Port, the Mucem, La Major cathedral and Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde seen from the sea, all lit up.

Port Corbières

Our base in L’Estaque, away from the bustle of the Vieux-Port, with private, secure parking: your car is waiting when you return.

Leaving from L’Estaque means you can reach the Frioul or the Côte Bleue in a few minutes: the skipper always has a sheltered option, even on mistral evenings. To discover these places by day, see our recommended routes.

Your own dinner

Ideas for a successful dinner at sea

Would you rather bring your own meal? Table, cool box and glasses are on board. Here is what works best for dinner at sea, according to our skippers.

  • A seafood platter prepared by a Marseille fishmonger, to pick up before boarding and keep cool in the cool box.
  • Dishes that can be eaten cold: vegetable tians, mixed salads, cold meats, cheese and fresh bread. At sea, we avoid cooking and hot sauces.
  • The birthday cake, ideally without delicate cream, which we keep cool until candle time.
  • Reusable cups and bottles rather than disposables: nothing must end up in the sea.

The skipper helps you set up the table at anchor and takes your sorted waste back to port. If you would rather not prepare anything, the caterer delivers a full menu directly on board, served at anchor.

Businesses

An evening at sea for your company

Thanking a team, hosting clients, closing a seminar: an evening at sea is a highlight that is easy to organise. The boat is private, the caterer delivers dinner on board, and our skippers take care of everything. For a large group, several boats sail together and meet up at anchor.

We draw up a single quote for the boats, dinner and options (host, sound system, decorations), with an invoice in your company’s name. For a full day with activities, see our team building at sea in Marseille page.

Practical tips

What to bring for an evening at sea?

  • A jacket or jumper, even in midsummer: at sea, the temperature drops quickly once night falls.
  • Shoes with light-coloured soles, or bare feet on board, so as not to mark the deck.
  • A swimsuit and towel in season, if an evening swim tempts you.
  • Your dinner and drinks, if you are not taking the caterer’s menu: table, cool box and glasses are on board.

On board, the skipper gives a safety briefing on departure, life jackets are available and the boat is lit for night sailing. All our rules are detailed on the safety at sea in Marseille page.

FAQ

Evening at sea in Marseille: your questions

How much does an evening at sea in Marseille cost?

An evening on a private sailboat costs €990 and an evening on the IA Orana catamaran €1,490, from 6 pm to 11 pm, professional skipper and fuel included. Classic yachts are on quotation. Dinner is extra.

Is dinner included?

No, it comes on top. You choose a menu from our partner caterer, from €50 per person, or bring your own dinner: the cockpit table and a cool box are available.

What time does the evening at sea start?

Departure at 6 pm from Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, and return around 11 pm. From April to September, the sun sets during the evening; from October to March, you sail at night.

How many people can come on board?

From 2 to 12 people on the sailboat, 2 to 16 on the IA Orana catamaran and 10 to 30 on our classic yachts. For a larger group, several boats meet up at anchor.

Can we swim in the evening?

In season and when the sea allows, a swim at anchor is possible at sunset or at nightfall, always at the skipper’s discretion: stern lit, swim ladder down, and no swimming after too many drinks.

Is sailing at night safe?

Yes. Our skippers are qualified professionals, our boats are equipped for night sailing, and we stay in the bay and along the coast. The skipper decides the route according to the weather.

What should I bring?

A jacket or jumper, even in summer: it is cooler at sea once night falls. A swimsuit in season, and shoes with light-coloured soles or bare feet on board.

Can I give an evening at sea as a gift?

Yes, all our private trips are available as gift vouchers, valid for 12 months, as well as a voucher for any amount.

Can we arrange a marriage proposal during an evening at sea?

Yes, it is one of the most beautiful occasions: we time the anchorage so that the moment comes at sunset or under the stars, prepare the champagne with our caterer, and the skipper knows how to stay out of the way.

Can we play music during the evening?

Yes, outside the core of the Calanques National Park, where music is forbidden. Our boats have a Bluetooth sound system, to be used at a volume that respects other boaters.

Is an evening at sea suitable for children?

Yes. Life jackets in every size are on board, and the very stable catamaran is ideal for families. Tell us the children’s ages when you book.

How far in advance should I book?

In July and August, several weeks ahead, especially for Fridays and Saturdays. Off season, a few days are often enough, depending on boat availability.

What happens if the weather is bad on the planned evening?

The skipper decides whether we can sail safely. If not, we offer you another date, or we stay in sheltered water on the Côte Bleue if the wind allows.

Can we extend the evening beyond 11 pm?

Yes, on request and subject to the skipper’s availability: mention it when you book and we will adjust the quote.

Does the skipper stay on board during dinner?

Yes, he stays on board throughout the evening, keeps an eye on the anchorage and safety, and keeps a low profile during the meal. He does not dine with you, unless you invite him.
