The best moment of the day

Drinks at sea in Marseille, at golden hour

Drinks at sea at sunset is our favourite outing. There is a moment, at the end of the day, when the sea turns copper and the cliffs of the Frioul glow pink. It is our favourite time to head out: the heat drops, the wind often eases, and the bay of Marseille shows off its finest colours.

Our sunset trips leave from Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, away from the Vieux-Port traffic. Within minutes you are at anchor, glass in hand, facing the Château d’If or in a cove of the Côte Bleue. A trip on a sailboat or catamaran, in a small group or just for you.

Sunset boat trip: how much per person?

The shared Sunset is booked per seat: the simplest option for a couple or a few friends. Private trips are paid for the whole boat, skipper and fuel included: as soon as the group grows, the price per person becomes very reasonable.

Rounded prices, taxes included, skipper and fuel included, drinks not included

Shared Sunset, sailboat€89 per seat€89 per seat——
Private sailboat, 4 h€175 per person€88 per person€58 per person—
IA Orana catamaran, 3 h€273 per person€136 per person€91 per person€68 per person

From 8 people, the private sailboat therefore costs the same per person as the shared Sunset, with the boat all to yourselves and the date of your choice. For 12 to 16 people, the IA Orana catamaran offers more space, at €91 per person for 12. The caterer’s drinks are added according to the option chosen, or you bring your own.

Choosing well

Sailboat or catamaran for your drinks at sea?

The sailboat

To feel the sea: the sails go up, the boat heels gently and glides silently towards the Frioul. Ideal for couples, friends or small groups, up to 12 people.

The catamaran

For comfort: stable and spacious, with its front nets and flybridge to admire the setting sun. The choice for birthdays and groups, up to 16 people.

The classic yacht

For an exceptional event: Andale, Hygie, Belle Aventure or Saint Amour, characterful yachts for 10 to 30 people, with drinks or dinner from the caterer.

The shared Sunset

For a first time or a gift: a few seats on a sailboat, on Thursday or Friday, in a small group with other passengers.

Not sure? Tell us the number of people and the occasion: we will recommend the most suitable boat. For an even longer moment, the evening at sea extends the sunset with dinner at anchor.

How it works

How a sunset at sea goes

H is the time of sunset. Everything is timed around it.

  1. H − 1 h
BoardingWelcome at Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, with private, secure parking. The skipper introduces the boat and the safety briefing.
  2. H − 45 min
Out to seaDepending on the wind, head for the Frioul islands or the calanques of the Côte Bleue. On the sailboat, the sails go up.
  3. H − 30 min
Anchorage and drinksAnchored in a sheltered cove, a swim in season, then drinks facing the golden light.
  4. H
The sunsetThe sun dips below the horizon and the Château d’If and the islands light up. The moment everyone is waiting for.
  5. H + 1 h
Back under the starsNight sailing along the bay, with Marseille and Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde lit up.

What time does the sunset trip leave?

The sun does not set at the same time in December and in June: we always leave one hour before. From October to March, departure is therefore in the late afternoon, and the trip ends at dinner time.

The exact time is confirmed when you book, to within a quarter of an hour.

A sunset at sea in every season

In spring

From April to June, the days get longer and departure moves to around 7.15 pm, then 8.15 pm. The light is crystal clear and the air still cool on the way back: bring a jacket. It is the season of the first swims for the bravest.

In summer

In July and August, drinks at sea become the ideal outing to escape the heat. We leave around 8 pm, swim at anchor in water above 22 °C, then return at night with the city lit up. This is the busiest period: book your date several weeks ahead.

In autumn

September and October often bring the most beautiful sunsets of the year: clear skies, a still-warm sea and a calmer bay. Departure is in the late afternoon, and the trip ends at dinner time.

In winter

From November to February, the sun sets early, around 5 pm: a sunset boat trip becomes an original afterwork outing. The colours are intense, mistral days leave a very clear sky, and the skipper always chooses sheltered water. Check the marine weather in Marseille to prepare your trip.

Our tips for beautiful photos

The best shots are taken in the quarter of an hour before sunset, then just after, when the sky turns pink and purple. Stand at the bow, turn off the flash and play with silhouettes: the sails, the Château d’If or your friends against the light. Bring a waterproof pouch for your phone, especially if you plan to swim. And keep a few minutes simply to watch: that is often when the best memories are made.

For a private boat, choose an option from the caterer (drinks or dinner) or bring your own drinks: cool box and glasses are on board.

Planning a surprise during drinks at sea

Sunset is the perfect moment for a marriage proposal, a birthday or an announcement. We help you prepare the surprise down to the smallest detail, with complete discretion.

  • The right moment: we time the anchorage so that the key moment happens right at sunset, facing the Château d’If or the Frioul islands.
  • Champagne and cake: our partner caterer prepares the drinks, a bottle of champagne or a birthday cake, served on board at the right moment.
  • Decorations: you can bring flowers, fairy lights or a banner; the skipper helps you set them up before your guests arrive.
  • Photos: the skipper keeps a low profile and can capture the moment with your phone.

FAQ

Sunset boat trip in Marseille: your questions

How much does a sunset boat trip in Marseille cost?

The shared Sunset on a sailboat costs €89 per seat. For a private boat with skipper, allow €700 for a sailboat (up to 12 people) and €1,090 for the IA Orana catamaran (up to 16 people). Classic yachts are on quotation.

What time does the sunset trip leave?

One hour before sunset, which changes with the season: departure around 4 pm in December, around 6 pm in October and around 8.15 pm in June. The exact time is confirmed when you book.

Are drinks included?

For the shared Sunset, there are two options to add to your booking: Apéro at €19 (2 drinks and a sharing board) or Apéro Prestige at €35 (champagne, 1 drink and a premium sharing board), prepared by our partner caterer. For a private boat, you choose an option from the caterer or bring your own drinks.

How many people can come on board?

The shared Sunset sails with a minimum of 8 passengers, in a small group. For private trips, the sailboat takes 2 to 12 people, the IA Orana catamaran 2 to 16, and our classic yachts 10 to 30. For a larger group, several boats meet up at anchor.

Where does the sunset at sea take place?

Leaving from Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, the skipper chooses according to the wind between the Frioul islands and the Château d’If, or the coves of the Côte Bleue. The return is at night along the illuminated bay.

What should I bring?

A light jumper or a windbreaker: the temperature drops quickly at sea after sunset. Shoes with light-coloured soles or bare feet on board, and a swimsuit in season for a swim.

What happens in case of mistral or bad weather?

Safety comes first: the skipper decides whether we can sail. If not, we offer you another date. When the mistral blows, we often stay in the shelter of the Côte Bleue, right next to Port Corbières.

Can I give a sunset at sea as a gift?

Yes. The Sunset for two gift voucher costs €169, or €199 with drinks, valid for 12 months. Private trips are also available as gift vouchers.

Can we swim during drinks at sea?

Yes, in season, roughly from June to September. The skipper drops anchor in a sheltered cove before sunset: you swim at anchor, before drinks. Remember your swimsuit and towel.

Can we bring our own drinks?

Yes, on private boats: cool box and glasses are on board. For the shared Sunset, the Apéro option at €19 and the Apéro Prestige at €35 per person are prepared by our partner caterer.

Is a sunset boat trip suitable for children?

Yes. Life jackets in every size are on board. For the youngest, the very stable catamaran is the most comfortable; tell us the children’s ages when you book.

How far in advance should I book?

In July and August, several weeks ahead, especially for weekends. Off season, a few days are often enough. For the shared Sunset, Thursday and Friday seats go fast in summer.

What happens if the shared Sunset does not reach 8 passengers?

The shared Sunset sails with a minimum of 8 passengers. If fewer than 8 are booked 72 hours before departure, we offer you another date.

Can we organise drinks at sea for a company afterwork?

Yes, it is one of our favourite outings for teams: departure at the end of the day, caterer’s drinks at anchor and return at nightfall. For more than 16 people, several boats leave together and meet up at anchor. See our team building at sea page.

Do I need sea legs?

No. The sunset is mostly spent at anchor, in a sheltered cove, and the skipper chooses the calmest water according to the wind. If you are prone to seasickness, choose the very stable catamaran.
