How can I safely rent out my boat to private individuals?
The three keys are a qualified renter, a clear contract and suitable insurance. With LOCVOILIER, every bareboat renter presents an approved sailing CV, signs a charter contract and pays a security deposit online before boarding; a condition report is carried out at departure and return. Your insurance must cover charter to third parties: we check this point with you.
What is the difference between charter management and self-management?
With charter management, LOCVOILIER takes care of everything: renters, contracts, condition reports, cleaning, routine technical follow-up, and you receive 60 to 65% of each charter excluding VAT, i.e. a commission of 35 to 40%. With self-management, your boat is visible in our catalogue with our contract, our online payment and our security deposit, but you handle the communication, preparation, cleaning, check-in, check-out and maintenance yourself, for a commission of only 12%.
How much does self-management cost?
LOCVOILIER charges a 12% commission on the charter price, excluding options, à la carte services and the security deposit; the renter pays a 5% service fee on their side. There is no subscription or registration fee: you only pay when your boat is chartered.
Can I entrust just the check-in or the cleaning?
Yes. That is what à la carte services are for: check-in or check-out at €60 each, end-of-charter cleaning from €120 depending on the size of the boat, skipper, host or cook. For maintenance, hull polishing and antifouling also have their price list. They are available in all ports from L’Estaque to Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and are ordered 48 hours in advance.
Can renters rate my boat?
Yes, and you can rate them too. After each charter, each party rates the other without seeing their rating; both reviews are published together. A good rating moves your boat up in our catalogue, and renters’ ratings help you accept their next requests.
How much can chartering my boat earn?
It depends on the boat, its port, its condition and the number of weeks chartered. We give you a realistic estimate after the visit, based on our charter prices and the demand we see each season in Marseille. Indicate in the listing the price you have in mind, if you have one.
Does my boat have to be based in Marseille?
Our customers mainly look for departures from Marseille, Cassis, La Ciotat and the Côte Bleue. A boat based elsewhere in the Mediterranean can be offered, especially for cruises from Corsica or the Var; let’s talk about it before the visit.
Does my boat need to be classified NUC?
Only if you want trips or cruises with a paid skipper and paying passengers: the boat must then be classified as a commercially used vessel, under Division 241. For bareboat charter, the boat remains a pleasure craft. Our Division 241 page details the obligations.
Can I block dates to sail myself?
Of course. You indicate the periods when the boat is available for charter and those you keep for yourself. You can change them from one season to the next: just write to us.
Which boats charter best in Marseille?
Catamarans of 12 to 14 metres, for families and groups, and well-maintained, easy-to-handle sailboats of 11 to 14 metres are the most in demand. Large classic sailboats and luxury boats also find their audience for events and crewed cruises. A recent or renovated, clean and well-equipped boat always charters better.
Can I rent out my boat for just a few weeks a year?
Yes. Many owners rent out their boat for four to eight weeks a season, around their own sailing. This is often enough to cover a good share of the berth, insurance and annual maintenance.
How long does it take to list my boat for charter?
Allow two to four weeks between sending the listing and going live: time for the call, the boat visit, checking documents, writing the listing and taking photos. Before the high season, it is best to contact us in winter to benefit from the first summer bookings.
My boat is already on a charter platform: can I also offer it with LOCVOILIER?
Yes, with self-management, as long as you keep your calendar up to date to avoid double bookings. With full charter management, we prefer to centralise bookings to guarantee availability and quality of follow-up; we discuss this together during the first call.
How is my charter income paid?
Renters’ payments are collected securely, then your income is paid to you according to the terms of the contract, with a detailed statement for each charter. Your owner space brings together your documents and the follow-up of your charters.
Can an owner refuse a renter?
Yes. In self-management, you approve each request yourself after reading the renter’s sailing CV. In charter management, we apply criteria defined in advance with you: minimum experience, crew size, permitted areas, and we consult you if in doubt.
Who takes care of maintenance between charters?
In charter management, our team does it: checks after each charter, small repairs, cleaning, preparation before the next departure. In self-management, maintenance and cleaning remain your responsibility; you can entrust us with cleaning, check-in or check-out à la carte.
What happens in the event of damage?
The renter’s security deposit covers minor damage noted in the return condition report. Beyond that, the boat’s insurance takes over according to your policy. We document every condition report with photos so that everything is clear.
Can my boat be tracked during charters?
Yes, with our tracking solution: you know where your boat is, and you receive an alert in the event of an anomaly. It is an option appreciated by owners who charter with self-management.
How do I access my owner space?
It is open: create your owner account in My Space, with the same email address as in your listing. You will find your boat’s information, your documents and the follow-up of your charters.
