Boat charter management, with no hidden sales agenda

A sailboat or catamaran spends most of the year alongside. And all that time, it costs money: berth, insurance, antifouling, maintenance. Boat charter management in Marseille means entrusting it to a professional who charters it around your own calendar, so that charters pay for all or part of these costs.

Since 2018, LOCVOILIER has operated a fleet of around ten sailboats and catamarans from Port Corbières in Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat. We are owners ourselves, and we manage your boat as we manage our own: same skippers, same checks, same standards.

What sets us apart

We do not sell boats. We manage yours.

Most charter management offers come from boatbuilders, large fleets or dealers. Their first goal: to sell you a new boat. Compare.

Charter management or self-management: which should you choose?

Not all owners have the same expectations. Some want to delegate entirely, others prefer to keep control of their boat and their renters. That is why LOCVOILIER offers two options, with the same standards for selecting renters and following the boat.

Charter management: you delegate everything

With charter management, we take care of marketing, contracts, payments, condition reports, cleaning, technical follow-up and, depending on the boat, trips with our skippers. You receive your share of the charters actually paid, with the details charter by charter. This is the option chosen by most owners in our fleet, especially those who live far from Marseille.

Self-management: you stay at the helm

With self-management, your boat is listed on locvoilier.com and you manage the requests, key handovers and maintenance yourself. You receive 88% of the charter price (our commission is 12%), and you can order our à la carte services in all ports between L’Estaque and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer: check-in, check-out, cleaning, skipper, host or cook. Renters and owners rate each other after each charter. All the details are on our rent out your boat in Marseille page.

Which owners

Boat charter management: who is it for?

The owner who rarely sails

Two or three weeks a year on the water, and the rest of the time alongside: charter management turns those unused weeks into income that pays for the berth and maintenance.

The owner who lives far away

Do you live in Lyon, Paris or abroad? We are your eyes on site: checks at every charter, remote monitoring and regular reports.

The new owner

Have you just bought a second-hand sailboat or catamaran? We help you prepare it for charter, bring it up to standard and find a berth.

The catamaran owner

Catamarans of 40 ft and over also work on skippered days and events: these are the boats that most easily cover their costs.

In all cases, charter management remains a way of financing your boat, not a guaranteed investment: income depends on the boat, the season and the number of weeks you open for charter. That is why we always start with a free, no-obligation study.

How does charter management work at LOCVOILIER?

  1. 1

    First meeting and projection

We visit your boat, its equipment and its condition. Following this first meeting, we produce a personalised projection based on all the boat’s parameters (model, age, condition, equipment, port) and its availability over the year. You receive an income and cost forecast, tax advice to be validated with your accountant, and our help in finding a berth.

  2. 2

    Tailor-made contract

An annual contract built around your own sailing weeks. You choose the types of charter accepted: week, weekend, skippered day, events.

  3. 3

    Listing for charter

Photos, boat listing on locvoilier.com, distribution on platforms, renter selection (sailing CV and on-board assessment). If the level is insufficient, a professional skipper is required.

  4. 4

    Follow-up and payments

Check-in and check-out at every charter, documented maintenance, remote monitoring of the boat. You follow the schedule and every charter, with the details of your share.

More income, less wear

Four ways to put your boat to work

Our strength: your boat does not depend on weekly charters alone. We also put it to work on our own trips, with our skippers.

Weekly charter

The classic formula, without a skipper, for experienced sailors whose level we check.

Example: Oceanis 473 →
Skippered day trips

Your boat becomes one of our boat trip boats. More days chartered, less wear than a week of bareboat charter.

Our full-day trips →
Events and companies

Sunsets, hen parties, team building: short, well-paid services, always with a professional skipper.

Team building at sea →
Commercial use (NUC)

To sell seats on board or welcome more passengers, we help you convert the boat into a commercially used vessel.

Understanding Division 241 →
Real-time tracking of the position of a boat under charter management in Marseille
Peace of mind

Your boat under watch, even when it is chartered

Every charter begins and ends with a full condition report: hull, stainless steel, gelcoat, sails, engine, inventory. Everything is recorded in a digital maintenance log that you can consult at any time.

Our boats can be fitted with remote monitoring: battery voltage, bilge water level and GPS position. The whole fleet is visible in real time on our boat tracking page.

Renters are selected on their sailing CV and assessed on board. If their level is not sufficient, a professional skipper holding the Capitaine 200 accompanies them. The renter’s security deposit covers minor breakage; the boat’s insurance, adapted for charter, covers damage.

FAQ

Boat charter management in Marseille: your questions

What is boat charter management?

You entrust your sailboat or catamaran to a professional who charters it when you are not sailing. They take care of finding renters, contracts, condition reports and technical follow-up. Charter income is shared between you and the manager, and is used to cover all or part of your boat’s costs.

How much does charter management cost at LOCVOILIER?

You receive 60 to 65% of the charter price excluding VAT actually received: 65% for a monohull of 30 to 38 ft, 60 to 62% for monohulls of 40 to 50 ft and catamarans of 40 to 42 ft. Our commission is therefore 35 to 40%, including cleaning, check-in and check-out. For skippered trips, the cost of the crew is deducted before the split. Catamarans of 45 ft and over are the subject of a personalised study. There are no hidden fees.

How much can my boat earn under charter management?

It depends on its size, age, condition and the number of weeks or days chartered. Our simulator gives an order of magnitude. Following our first meeting, we produce a personalised projection based on all your boat’s parameters and its availability over the year. We do not promise a guaranteed return: we pay you your share of the charters actually received.

How is this different from a boatbuilder’s charter management programme?

Large fleet programmes are first and foremost a way to sell a new boat, with a “guaranteed income” calculated on its purchase price and a 5 to 6-year commitment. At LOCVOILIER, we do not sell boats: we manage the one you already own, with an annual contract, and your boat stays close to home.

Can I sail my boat in high season?

Yes. You set your personal weeks first, including July and August. Charters are then opened around your calendar.

Who pays for the berth, maintenance and insurance?

These costs remain the owner’s responsibility, and charter income is used precisely to cover them. LOCVOILIER takes care of marketing, contracts, condition reports, cleaning between charters and technical follow-up. Minor breakage by a renter (an accessory, a piece of equipment) is covered by their security deposit and liability insurance. More significant damage, for example after a bad manoeuvre, falls under the boat’s insurance taken out by the owner, which must cover charter use: we help you adapt it.

How are renters chosen?

Each renter sends their sailing CV and undergoes a manoeuvring assessment on board. If their level is not sufficient, a professional skipper holding the Capitaine 200 is compulsory. For day trips and events, the boat always goes out with one of our skippers.

Will my boat wear out faster?

A boat that sails wears, that is true, but a boat that stays alongside deteriorates too. We limit wear: renter selection, a cap on weeks chartered agreed with you, short skippered trips rather than weeks of bareboat charter, documented maintenance after each charter. A well-kept maintenance log also protects resale value.

Which boats do you accept?

Monohull sailboats from 30 ft and catamarans from 40 ft, in good condition and equipped in accordance with the regulations (Division 240). Boats under 3 years old charter better; beyond 8 years, we adjust the rates. We assess each boat during the free study.

I do not have a berth in Marseille: is that a problem?

No. We know the ports of Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat and help you find a berth suited to chartering your boat. Our base is at Port Corbières, in L’Estaque, a private port with parking.

How is income from chartering a boat taxed?

In France, chartering a boat falls under industrial and commercial profits (BIC), and not the LMNP status reserved for furnished accommodation, contrary to what is sometimes said. The choice between private individual and company, and the tax regime, depend on your situation: we can guide you, but always validate these points with your accountant.

Can I follow my boat remotely?

Yes. The boats we manage can be fitted with remote monitoring: battery voltage, bilge water level and real-time GPS position. Our whole fleet is tracked.

How long does the contract last?

The contract is annual and renews from one season to the next. You are not committed for several years as in the purchase programmes of large fleets.

Can I charter my boat myself, without charter management?

Yes, with self-management: your boat is listed on locvoilier.com, you manage requests and key handovers, and our commission is 12% of the charter price. Our à la carte services (check-in, check-out, cleaning, skipper) remain available. See the rent out your boat in Marseille page.

What happens to my boat in winter?

From October to April, it can keep working on skippered days, sunsets and corporate events, when the weather allows. It is also the time when we plan antifouling and major works with you, so that it is ready for spring.
