Who is it for?

Our boat owners become sailors

Many owners sail rarely, or have just changed boats. A few hours with an instructor are often enough to make the apprehension disappear, especially in the harbour and when the wind rises.

You have just bought a boat

Get to know it with a professional on board: how it handles, its engine, its electronics, its manoeuvres. Then you head out on your own, with confidence.

From motorboat to sailboat

You know the sea but not the sails: points of sail, trim, tacking and reefing, with an instructor who builds on your experience.

From monohull to catamaran

Two engines, more windage, no heel to warn you: a catamaran handles differently, especially in the harbour.

You sail 15 days a year

Your boat sleeps in the harbour for lack of time. A few hours to get the essential moves back, harbour first, and the season starts again.

Before a charter or a cruise

You are chartering bareboat this summer or planning a family cruise: a targeted refresher, on our boat or the one you will charter.

Alone, as a couple or a family

Everyone has a role, clear calls, a crew that knows what to do: sailing as a couple without raising your voice.

Programmes

Four programmes, one tailor-made plan

We combine them according to your boat, your crew and your goals.

Calm, confident sailing

Everyone at ease on deck, and calm when the wind picks up.

  • Who does what on board: roles, briefing, calls
  • Reduce sail before you need to
  • Rising wind, building sea
  • Man overboard and crew safety

Performance

Make your boat go faster, on every point of sail.

  • Genoa and mainsheet traveller trim
  • Mainsail, kicker, backstay, cunningham
  • Trim, heading and speed: reading your instruments
  • Spinnaker and gennaker, depending on your boat

Racing

A coach for you and your boat, from preparation to the finish line.

  • Boat and crew preparation
  • Starts, positioning and tactics
  • Coach on board or following from a RIB
  • Debrief after each race

Technical modules

The moves that make the difference, practised until they become reflexes.

  • Harbour manoeuvres, every situation
  • Reefing and dropping the sails
  • Changing your headsail
  • Anchoring, picking up a buoy, mooring lines
Harbour manoeuvres

Harbour manoeuvres, every possible situation

This is where everything happens, and where tension on board starts. We work in your harbour, at your berth, with the day’s wind: we repeat until the manoeuvre becomes simple.

    • Leaving a tight berth in a crosswind
    • Reversing onto the quay, prop walk
    • Picking up a mooring line alone or as a pair
    • Stern-to, rafting up or on a finger pontoon
    • Turning round in a channel
    • Using the bow thruster without depending on it
    • Handling a catamaran with its two engines
    • Preparing the lines and placing the crew

Other technical modules: reefing, dropping your sails, changing your headsail, trimming your genoa and mainsheet traveller, anchoring and weighing anchor safely.

Exact dates are published every year by the organising clubs.

Most of these regattas welcome IRC and OSIRIS rated yachts, one-design classes (J70, Grand Surprise…) and the CIM rule for classic yachts. Notices of race and entries are usually online on the French Sailing Federation website. We help you choose the right regatta for your boat.

    FAQ

    Become a sailor: your questions

What is the « Become a sailor » coaching?

Personalised coaching by a qualified sailing instructor, on your boat or ours, to progress on what matters to you: harbour manoeuvres, calm sailing when the wind picks up, sail trim, racing. It is not a group course: the programme is built for your boat and your crew.

How much does a session cost?

A 2-hour session on your boat starts at 150 €, a 3.5-hour half day at 250 € and a full day at 420 €, taxes included. The final quote depends on your boat, its size, your harbour and your goals.

    Who runs the sessions?

A sailing instructor holding the BPJEPS and a professional card, with their own insurance, joined when needed by our Captain 200 and 500 skippers or a racing sailor for the racing programme.

Can we come as a couple or a family?

Yes, it is one of the most useful formats: everyone finds their role on board, calls become clear and manoeuvres happen calmly. Up to 12 people on our boats.

Do you come to our boat?

Yes, anywhere on the PACA coast. Travel is free between Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat; elsewhere, a flat fee is shown on the quote.

I don’t have a boat yet, is that possible?

Yes: the session takes place on one of our 40 to 47 ft sailboats or catamarans. It is ideal before buying or chartering bareboat.

How many sessions do I need?

A 2-hour session is often enough to crack a harbour manoeuvre. To become independent, we recommend the pack of 3 half days, a few weeks apart.

What if there is too much wind?

The instructor adapts the programme: a moderate breeze is a great opportunity to practise reefing and calm sailing. If the weather does not allow a safe outing, the session is postponed at no cost.

Can I give coaching as a gift?

Yes, with a gift voucher for the amount of your choice, valid for 12 months: a great idea for a new boat owner.
